Schmidt and Biermann take third at scramble tourney

Jacob Schmidt and Landon Biermann negotiated the rolling hills of Shiloh Springs Golf Club well enough to contend for a title when Excelsior Springs played there last week in varsity competition. Paired for the Platte County Invitational Scramble, Schmidt and Biermann shot a 65 (-7) for the 18-hole, par-72 competition to place third in the April 1 tournament.

Smith leads ES club at state tourney

Lilly Smith contended for a state title last week. Competing for the Excelsior Springs Youth Wrestling Club, Smith placed second in the 14-and-under 195+-pound weight class at the Missouri USA Wrestling state folkstyle tournament, held March 30 in Springfield.

Glaspy squelches ’Tonka threat in tourney finale

When Excelsior Springs closing pitcher Klayton Glaspy had to finish his save opportunity against Winnetonka in the Excelsior Springs Tournament, he kept his cool. Glaspy and his fellow Tigers were leading 3-1 in the top of the seventh inning.

Ashworth takes fifth at national tourney

The wrestling accolades continue to grow for Excelsior Springs alum Damon Ashworth. The University of Central Missouri redshirt sophomore recently completed an All-American season with a fifthplace finish in the 184-pound division at NCAA Division II national competition.

ES boys golfers take second

Excelsior Springs fell slightly short of a varsity boys golf tournament title last week, in part, because of its short game, Tigers coach David Stalder suggested. Led by senior Jacob Schmidt, who shot a 74 (+4) for his 18-hole, par-70 round, Excelsior Springs placed second March 20 at Hodge Park Golf Course in the Winnetonka Tournament with a combined score of 242 – three strokes behind tournament champion Kearney.

ES girls split first two games

Excelsior Springs broke even for its first week of varsity girls soccer. The Tigers hit the road twice to open the season, falling 2-1 March 19 at Faucett to Mid-Buchanan, then cruising past Raytown 6-0 March 21.
