The Good Samaritan Center of Rural Clay County and Ray County is putting their best foot forward by helping better the community. The Excelsior Springs location of the center has begun handing out free Narcan nasal spray to the community.

Clay County deputies investigated a potential explosive device on streets Gano and Water in Missouri City around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday that was determined as explosive.

Platte-Clay Electrical Cooperative (PCEC) will be working on tree-trimming projects in the Excelsior Springs and Lawson service areas for the next few months. Crews of PCEC staff and contractors will be working along 69 and 92 highways, as well as areas served by the Dry Fork substation such as 166th and 174th streets.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds Missouri landowners who get no-cost or reduced-cost deer and turkey landowner hunting permits that it may be time to reaffirm or update the property information submitted to MDC. Under the MDC Landowner Permit Application process, Missouri landowners with at least 20 acres must submit information for their qualifying properties to MDC in order to receive free or reduced-cost landowner deer and turkey permits.

The Main Street Baptist Church (M.S.B.C.) was organized on June 16, 1885, by Rev. Horton with the assistance of Rev. W. Botts and his wife Sally, Henry Wilson, Travis Million, George Mc Carkle, Demp Hurt and Mildred Ewing Harris.

An area family recently opened Lamp Farm Country Store in order to involve the community in their efforts and to teach families about self-sustainable living. Originally from the Chillicothe/Trenton area, Greg and Casey Lamp decided they wanted to live and raise their children, Olivia and Madison, now ages 11 and 13, in the country.

Timothy M. Haslett entered a plea of not guilty February 17 in the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court in Clay County.

A request to allow alcoholic beverages on the streets of the Excelsior Springs Entertainment District has ignited controversy in the city. The Downtown Excelsior Partnership approached the Excelsior Springs City Council regarding the opportunity to allow for open containers of alcohol within an entertainment district similar to that which other successful downtowns have allowed.

The Fishing River Watershed Study coordinated by the city of Excelsior Springs is inviting community members to its upcoming meeting. The Fishing River Watershed Study’s next meeting is scheduled for March 7 from 6-8 p.m. at the Excelsior Springs Museum on E. Broadway.
