SEDALIA – A couple of dozen youngsters and adults at the Missouri State Fair played the role of assembly line workers. They worked next to a conveyer belt to place boxes of cereal, jars of peanut butter and cans of vegetables – and assorted other food items – into large boxes sent down the line to pack for hungry children statewide.

RICHMOND – The Ray County Commission’s legally questionable way of handling meeting agendas drew more than questions when the Missouri Attorney General’s Office filed a suit alleging the county violated the Missouri Sunshine Law.

RICHMOND – Board member Jonathon Renfro’s call for a mask mandate to kick in if the number of Richmond School District absentees from COVID-19 were to reach 5% of the student population failed. Renfro could not get any board members to “second” his motion, meaning the board did not bother to vote on the suggestion during the special meeting Monday at the middle school.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Cityowned cemetery space is running out at Crown Hill and Hillcrest, City Manager Molly McGovern said during a meeting with other city leaders. The city could develop a Crown Hill section to allow for shallow digging for urns versus graves, McGovern said.

RICHMOND – Seventy years ago, on March 13, 1951, 17-yearold Ira Anderson enrolled in the U.S. Army to fight for his country.

LIBERTY – During an Aug. 18 Zoom meeting, the Northland Coalition voted to elect the following members to serve as officers for 2021-2022: • President, Amy Ganaden, intermediate and middle school division head at Oakhill Day School; • President-elect, Shawn Warfield, behavioral therapist at the Jacobs Center, North Kansas City School District; • Treasurer, Tom Mayfield, Excelsior Springs technical high school coordinator; and • Secretary, Emily Barnes, community prevention specialist for Tri-County Mental Health Services.
