Tai Chi to be taught at ES Community Center

Field Specialist in Nutrition and Health Melissa Cotton from the University of Missouri Extension’s Health and Well-Being Department has agreed to host a free Tai Chi class in Excelsior Springs. Classes will be held every Monday and Friday at noon, through March 22.

ESFD provides mutual aid in Mosby fire

Excelsior Springs Fire Department (ESFD) assisted with extinguishing a residential structure fire in Mosby this week. The department assisted Fishing River Fire District on the scene at 6th Street in Mosby.

Infant manikins available for educational training

Clay County Public Health Center recently announced lifelike manikins showcasing prenatal infant substance use exposure are now available to be utilized for educational training by organizations. In partnership with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services’ Prenatal Substance Use Prevention Program, the health center is now loaning out lifelike infant manikins representing infants with various substance exposure issues, including fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) and otherwise healthy conditions to educate and demonstrate to organizations the effects of prenatal substance use.

Advanced directives hot topic at senior center

Excelsior Springs Hospital Director of Social Services Tiffany Danneman visited the Senior Center to discuss the importance of filing a living will and a Medical Durable Power of Attorney (DPA). Danneman explained a living will would allow residents to document their wishes about withdrawing from or withholding life-prolonging medical procedures if unable to make decisions.

ESACC to undergo changes

The Excelsior Springs Area Career Center is gearing up to make interior and exterior changes for next school year. Michael Botchway, architect designer with Incite Design Studio, said drawings for the project, which will begin this summer, were recently sent to Newkirk Novack Construction Partners.
