Elms Historic District added within tax abatement district

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Property owners in the city’s Elms Historic District might find making renovations easier financially. On July 19, the City Council approved making the area part of the city’s 353 tax abatement district via an amended ordinance.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The appearance of an American bald eagle and a turkey in the same Ray County field near the intersection of Route C and Missouri Highway 10 might remind some people of a popular American myth.

ON MISSOURI HIGHWAY 10 near Route C, between Richmond and Excelsior Springs, a bald eagle rests on a round hay bale. In the distance directly behind the eagle stands a wild turkey. Two county officeholders resign seats

CLAY COUNTY – Two Clay County officeholders have resigned their offices.

The collector and public administrator will be gone by Sept. 1.

Public Administrator Sarah Mills resigned effective at the end of August.

Under the Clay County Constitution voters approved in November, the county’s judges will advise County Administrator Tom Salisbury regarding who they would like to see appointed to replace Mills, Presiding Commissioner Jerry Nolte said Wednesday.

AFTER MONTHS spent wearing masks, limiting social contact and getting shots, instead of being rewarded with the freedom to once again mix and mingle socially, area residents are threatened by a new COVID-19 variant, known as Delta. The variant spreads faster and is deadlier than the original, with younger people becoming ill. The spread is aided by people who have refused to become immunized, and those people also are the most likely to contract and die from the virus, based on medical reports.
