City awards overlay contract

On April 5, the City Council approved a resolution to hire Kansas City-based Superior Bowen Asphalt Co. LLC to do overlay work. Superior Bowen has worked on projects such as the Kansas Speedway racetrack in Wyandotte County, Kansas, and on Kansas City’s downtown loop.

Board receives summer school info

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Superintendent Dan Hoehn recommended the Excelsior Springs School District reevaluate the size of summer school programs in 2022. Hoehn, who will retire in June, made his recommendation during the Board of Education’s April 12 meeting following a report by Anneliese Tadlock.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The school district is entering a program that might reduce its carbon footprint while helping reduce the chances the area will experience rolling blackouts during extreme weather, like some parts of the country experienced this winter.

City acts to reduce false alarms

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Police Chief Clint Reno said he hopes a new ordinance will reduce false alarm calls received by the department. Passed April 5 by the City Council as an addition to the city code, the ordinance gives police authority to issue written warnings to security alarm subscribers after three responses to false alarms within a calendar year.

Two Tigers named to Dream Team

CARROLLTON – In late March, KMZU announced its latest Dream Teams for high school boys and girls basketball. Excelsior Springs juniors Mallory Millsap and Rylie Stottlemyre made the cut for the girls team.
