DALLAS – Why a Valley Manor Rehabilitation Center resident – who had COVID-19, recovered and later received two vaccine doses – tested positive again for the virus is up to local officials to resolve, but an infectious disease expert, Dr. Murray Cohen, offered general thoughts on the topic.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – There is a flurry of activity at Cornerstone Elementary as construction crews work to get the new facility open for the 2021-2022 school year, Superintendent Dan Hoehn reported March 8 to district leaders.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS– The school district is receiving technology infrastructure upgrades. On March 8, the Board of Education approved bids submitted by TwoTrees Technologies LLC in Wichita, Kansas, to replace universal power supplies, Wi-Fi switches and Wi-Fi access point devices.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs School District plans to transition students in grades 6-12 from virtual and hybrid instruction to classroom-oriented instruction, Deputy Superintendent Jaret Tomlinson told district leaders March 8.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The school district added another construction project to its to-do list. On March 8, the Board of Education approved bids to renovate Westview Elementary, to be known as the District Early Childhood Center.

LIBERTY – The new Clay County commissioners are not sold on replacing the annex at 1901 N.E. 48th St., Kansas City, but they might have no choice.

LIBERTY – The Clay County Commission added a building, with plans for use undecided because county financial service employees have moved out of leased space in that building to work in other county offices.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The exhibit “Struggle for Statehood” will come to the Excelsior Springs Museum and Archives in April, operations chief Kathy Duncan said. “This is a traveling exhibit that’s coming from the Missouri Humanities Council,” Duncan said.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city has received “really good results” regarding the safe streets survey, City Manager Molly McGovern said March 1. The online SurveyMonkey.com survey received 246 responses about whether the city should seek a sidewalk and street work grant for the city’ west side.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Fiscal year 2020 was big for building permit revenue, Economic Development Director Melinda Mehaffy told the City Council. Mehaffy presented the Planning & Zoning Department’s annual report when the City Council convened March 1 in a hybrid meeting.
