Layton, Rogers, Wilmes qualify for state

Gavin Wilmes and Dalton Layton will finish their respective high school track and field careers at a state meet. Wilmes and Layton, both of whom graduated recently from Excelsior Springs, will compete this weekend at Class 4 state competition at Jefferson City High School.

Schmidt, Biermann finish season at state

Jacob Schmidt and Landon Biermann would probably agree that conditions were hardly ideal when they represented Excelsior Springs at the Class 3 state boys golf tournament. Like their fellow golfers, the two Tigers had to fight through rainy downpours and wind at the twoday tournament, held recently at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.

Biermann, Schmidt qualify for state

Excelsior Springs golf coach David Stalder got to see two of his Tigers qualify for state last week. On May 8, Landon Biermann and Jacob Schmidt advanced to the Class 3 state tournament by being among the top 14 individuals not on the two qualifying teams at the Class 3 District 4 Tournament at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond.

Tigers qualify for sectionals in 15 events

The track and field season has been extended for another week for Excelsior Springs – at least in 15 events. The Tigers extended the season in those events by securing top-four finishes May 13 at Class 4 District 8 competition at Winnetonka High School.

Moffett, Rogers win titles at Blue Division meet

On May 3, Braxton Moffett and Kinley Rogers left Raytown South High School as champions. The two Excelsior Springs student athletes won a title apiece at the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division track and field championships.
