During the Wood Heights City Council meeting, members heard from Missouri American Water Vice President of Engineering and Business Development Jody Carlson, who oversees operations for the company’s northwest district, which includes Wood Heights.

Missouri Department of Natural Resources recently awarded Excelsior Springs a grant for $3,891,114 to be used to replace a bridge located on North Main Street along the Dry Fork River and for rehabilitation of the “old laundry mat” lot.

Uptown Roots Salon in Excelsior Springs is looking for youth in the area who have started up businesses. Owner Erica Todd-Burton says she believes that children can be entrepreneurs too, and she wants to help them pursue their business dreams by hosting pop-up markets featuring their products.

During the Wood Heights City Council meeting Monday, resident David Stephens came in before the council members, including Mayor Frank Davitt, council members Kathy Hart, Randy Jones, Bernard Allen, Ron Lambert and City Clerk Merry Marler. Stephens expressed frustrations with the members and asked about communication.

This past Tuesday, Excelsior Springs felon Timothy Haslett, 40, was indicted to the grand jury by Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson on Haslett’s nine felony counts. The felonies include one count of rape in the first degree, four counts of sodomy in the first degree, one count of kidnapping in the first degree, two counts of assault in the second degree and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Downtown Excelsior Springs was filled with indulgent aromas of gourmet chocolate as the 17th Annual Chocolate Tour kicked off this past weekend. With 400 participants and an extensive lineup of participating downtown businesses, the day was filled with laughter, shopping and lots of chocolate!

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred last week near Kearney. The victim was identified as Eric B.

Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative (PCEC) is accepting applications for its annual spring scholarship opportunities. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to local undergraduate students pursuing a degree in the electric power industry. A winner will be selected from each of PCEC’s three service districts.

North American Savings Bank (NASB) is bringing financial literacy education to students and residents in several Missouri counties. Students at Excelsior Springs High School, Lewis Elementary, Missouri City Elementary and the surrounding communities will have free access to Banzai.
