Youth Fishing Day draws 37 participants

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS — On June 11, Powell Lake was surrounded by 37 young anglers getting hooked on fishing. Youngsters were accompanied by their families for a morning of free fishing, hosted by the Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Department.

Auxiliary sponsors two ES Girls State candidates

ST. CHARLES – The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring two Excelsior Springs High School juniors to serve as delegates for Missouri Girls State, which began June 11 and will conclude Saturday at Lindenwood University.

Wine Festival show cases Missouris best

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Wine lovers got to sample more than 85 wines offered by 20 of Missouri’s wineries, and beer lovers got to taste some beers from craft breweries, June 11 during the 16th Annual Wine Fest along Lover’s Lane.

Council approves Wyman power plant demo bid

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – An old power plant is about to disappear from a historic site. On June 6, the City Council approved a $24,400 bid by Dehn Demolition of Independence to level the plant, located in the 100 block of Dunbar sitting southwest of the Wyman building.
WYMAN SCHOOL’S power plant will be demolished beginning later this month. Roof damage and deteriorating conditions of the structure have prompted its removal. The structure is 109 years old. BRIAN RICE | Staff

A bigger Rainbow Splash Park?

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Rainbow Splash Park could expand in 2023, Parks and Recreation and Community Center Director Nate Williams told city leaders June 6 at the Hall of Waters. Williams mentioned that possibility shortly before the City Council approved a 12-month lease agreement with the First United Methodist Church for the city to handle upkeep on a parcel of property between the church and park.
