Excelsior Springs’ latest varsity girls basketball season was a success, according to coach JD Biermann. “We won the most games in quite some time and played a lot of tough teams,” Biermann stated Tuesday via email.
For Excelsior Springs seniors Cooper Collins, Gaige Carr and Cooper Lester, wrestling at the Class 2 state boys tournament was a farewell. It also was a farewell for Cody Beck, their coach.
Lilly Goetz isn’t resting long after her medal-winning season of high school girls wrestling. The Excelsior Springs sophomore, who placed sixth at Class 1 state competition, plans to prepare for the 202627 campaign by wrestling in offseason tournaments.
A win over Odessa in varsity boys basketball eluded Excelsior Springs this season. Excelsior Springs went 0-3 against the Bulldogs, losing twice to them during the regular season and once during the postseason.
KNOB NOSTER – When Excelsior Springs needed Lara Hutton to come through in the clutch Monday night in varsity girls basketball, Hutton turned to her training. Excelsior Springs was leading Richmond 44-43 when Hutton was fouled with 5.7 seconds left in the final quarter of the Class 4 District 14 Tournament showdown.
Cooper Collins’ senior wrestling season nearly ended the same way his first high school season had. Collins, who’ll graduate in May from Excelsior Springs, placed second in the 144-pound division at the Class 2 state boys tournament, held Feb.
