The regular season is over for the Excelsior Springs Football Association (ESFA). And the postseason is about to begin.

Excelsior Springs’ quest for a second straight team district championship in girls tennis fell short. For the second straight season, the Tigers reached the championship dual of the Class 1 District 14 Tournament.

For two-plus quarters on the night of Oct. 13, Excelsior Springs was in position to get its first win this season in varsity 11-man football.

Excelsior Springs’ cross country runners are turning their focus to qualifying for state competition. The Tigers will attempt to qualify for the Class 4 state meet when they run at Class 4 District 4 competition, slated for Oct.

Shutouts characterized the first round of the Class 4 District 8 Tournament. Excelsior Springs was on the losing side of one of those shutouts.

As of this writing, Excelsior Springs still had more varsity volleyball to play. With a sweep Tuesday of visiting Richmond, the Tigers advanced to play Oak Grove Wednesday at Oak Grove in the Class 3 District 15 Tournament semifinals.

Excelsior Springs is on a hot streak in varsity boys soccer. Following Monday’s win over visiting Raytown South, the Tigers are 9-5 and on a five-game winning streak season, with two regularseason games left before district competition starts on Oct.

It’s postseason time for Excelsior Springs in varsity softball. At press time, the fourth-seeded Tigers were slated to open the Class 4 District 8 Tournament Thursday against fifthseeded, Independence-based William Chrisman at Miracle Field, with the winner to face the Kearney-Lincoln College Prep winner in the semifinals of the single-elimination tournament at 12:45 p.m.
