Tigers drop two in their own tourney

Until Monday’s meeting with Winnetonka, Excelsior Springs was on a losing streak in varsity boys soccer. Before getting their 7-0 road win over the Griffins, the Tigers lost three straight, including two last week in their own tournament at Tiger Stadium.

ES volleyball opens 0-3

Excelsior Springs refused to be swept in its opening week of varsity volleyball. The Tigers played three matches in three nights, falling 3-1 Aug.

Whitworth, Houck and Stout make top 50 at Liberty meet

The Tim Nixon Invitational gave Excelsior Springs cross country coach Brian Smarker and his Tigers the chance to do some testing. “Our main goal for the first 5K of the season was to get a baseline for our athletes and to see where some of our new members were in every aspect of distance running,” Smarker said.

Tigers runners-up at ’Tonka tourney

Like last year, Excelsior Springs played Fort Osage for the Winnetonka Tournament title to cap its first week of the varsity boys soccer season. This time, however, the outcome was different.
