Excelsior Springs was seeking to return to the win column in varsity girls soccer when this week started. Entering Tuesday’s home meeting with Independence-based Van Horn, the Tigers were 1-3 with a two-game losing streak.

Excelsior Springs broke even for the first week of varsity girls soccer. The Tigers went 1-1, falling 2-1 to Mid-Buchanan March 21and downing Raytown 3-0 March 23.

Another Tigerette will continue to dance after high school. Excelsior Springs senior Kelsey Coleman recently signed a letter of intent to be a part of the dance team at William Jewell College in Liberty, where she’ll major in psychology.

On March 19, Excelsior Springs put the finishing touch on its varsity boys basketball season. That night, the Tigers held their end-of-season banquet at the high school, with coach Chad Wright giving out multiple awards.

On March 25, Excelsior Springs’ season-opening homestand ended. Excelsior Springs’ season-opening winning streak, however, did not end.

During his tenure as Excelsior Springs varsity baseball coach, Aaron Holst has guided the Tigers through a few no-hitters, including their 1-0 seasonopening win March 17 over visiting William Chrisman. The latest one, however, was different: It was a combined no-hitter.

Excelsior Springs track and field coach Jonah Albertson probably won’t have problems filling events this spring. At press time, Albertson had a 100-person roster of boys and girls – the largest turnout in program history.

The Tigers will possess a mix of experience and youth in varsity girls soccer as they look to improve on their 9-10 campaign of 2022 and begin playing in a new conference. Returning all-district and allconference selections Lauren Mueller, Abby Rash and Bailey Carder will help provide the experience.
