CAMERON – Excelsior Springs varsity softball coach Megan Gilbertson broke down her Tigers’ performance in the Cameron Tournament by the two days they played in it. “We came out and played really well Friday, hitting, pitching and playing defense,” Gilbertson said.
Terri Irons saw her induction into the Excelsior Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Aug. 10 in the Performing Arts Center as more than a personal honor.
An Aug. 20 preseason jamboree with visiting Kearney and Chillicothe gave the Tigers a phase of their game to hone as they prepare to open their varsity boys soccer season next week.
The Tigers aren’t concerned about facing new competition this varsity girls golf season, according to coach David Stalder. Like Excelsior Springs’ other sports programs, the girls golf team will be affiliated with the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division.
Many varsity new runners are taking to the cross country trails this season for Excelsior Springs. On the girls side, the Tigers graduated everyone from last season’s team.
If Excelsior Springs’ upcoming varsity football season could be summed up in one word, it would probably be familiarity. The Tigers have a familiar face leading them: Mark Faubion, who enters his sixth season as their head coach.
