Dora Lee Barney died Wednesday June 15th 2022. Born April 2nd 1966 in Dayton, Ohio. Survived by two sisters Sue A Miller & Diane Ivy, one brother Billy Barney, and one brother in law Steve Miller. She lived most of her life in Excelsior Springs Mo. Celebration of life will be held at Prathersville Bible Church 25406 County Fair Cir. Excelsior Springs Mo. Saturday July 9th 2022 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm     

Jerry DeWayne Woods

Jerry DeWayne Woods, 83, of Excelsior Springs, MO passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at his home in rural Ray County. 
 
Jerry was born on July 7, 1938 in Kansas City, MO to Melvin and Bessie (Arnold) Woods. He graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1956 where he was on the football and track teams and married Barbara Elaine Lee in 1957. 
 
After high school he became an electrician and co-owned Woods Brothers construction company with his brother, Kendall. He also farmed and was a pilot. 
 

ESHS grad returns to help coach Tigerettes

The Tigerettes have two new coaches – one of them a recent member of that Excelsior Springs High School dance team. Emily West, a 2021 Excelsior Springs graduate, is returning to help the Tigerettes.

‘The Sandlot’ draws 30-plus to park

More than 30 people gathered June 18 at the Carolyn Schutte Pocket Park in Excelsior Springs for the Parks and Recreation Department’s Movie in the Park event. The 1993 film “The Sandlot” played on an inflatable screen as a free activity for families and friends.

Carlyle hones skills in summer softball

Chloe Carlyle is spending nearly every weekend this summer in a familiar place: on a softball field. Carlyle, a two-time letter winner in softball at Excelsior Springs High School who catches and is an outfielder for coach Megan Rawie, plays for the 18-and-under Mayhem team.
