Budget outlines projects, improvements for year ahead
Excelsior Springs’ newly approved fiscal year 2027 budget includes changes and planned projects across a range of city funds, from refuse and transportation to parks and public safety.
City Council members recently approved the FY27 budget, which covers Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2027.
Among the other funds addressed in the budget is refuse, where the city’s regular rate is expected to remain $23.50 per month.
The city contracted with Red Gate in 2025, and City Manager Melinda Mehaffy said the company has requested a 3% increase for FY27 along with a one-time annual fuel surcharge. Combined, the changes increase the city’s cost by $1.66 per user account.
The company is averaging 248.07 tons of trash collected each month, while landfill costs are expected to increase from $38.31 to $40.14 per ton Jan. 1, 2027.
