District positioned for child health clinic funding

It appears the Excelsior Springs School District has secured some funding for the child health care clinic slated to open at the Early Childhood Center (ECC). Heather Gross, assistant superintendent, announced during the Board of Education’s June 27 meeting at the Support Services Center that the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) Head Start program has offered a $198,000 donation toward the facility. As The Standard reported, the school board approved a partnership in December 2021 between Swope Health Services of Kansas City and the district to work toward establishing the clinic to provide dental and medical services, and perhaps optometry care. The newspaper also reported that Katie Andreasen, ECC principal, would collaborate with Swope to pursue funding and the district was expected to incur no out-of-pocket costs.
