As tornado season approaches, the Excelsior Springs Fire Department (ESFD) is urging the community to prepare for severe weather by sharing essential insights. By taking proactive measures, residents can significantly improve their safety and readiness during this potentially dangerous time.To effectively prepare for tornado season, ESFD Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Cameron White states families should take several important steps.First, they should develop a comprehensive tornado plan that outlines specific actions to take in the event of a tornado warning. This plan should include identifying safe shelter locations within the home or nearby, such as a basement, storm cellar or an interior room on the lowest level, away from windows, according to White.
