‘Urinetown’ brings music, fresh energy to local stage
Slightly Off Broadway Theatre is taking creative risks this summer with its production of “Urinetown: The Musical,” a satirical comedy that pokes fun at capitalism, bureaucracy and the legal system – all through song and dance.Performances run Aug. 1-17 at the theater’s building on Marietta Street, with Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3:30 p.m.Director Samantha Barrett noted the company chose the show as part of an effort to explore fresh material.“We’ve decided to try some shows outside of our comfort zone now that we officially own our building,” explained Barrett. “A heavy mortgage payment was a big factor in choosing our shows, we couldn’t afford to take risks.
