Westview holds teacher appreciation parade
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Parents and students of Westview Elementary participated in a teacher appreciation parade.
The 48-car parade included a police escort, fire truck and the Excelsior Springs Chamber trolley. Paraders made nine stops, each time for a group of Westview Elementary teachers and staff.
“We wanted to be creative to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them,” parade organizer Laura Blevins said.
Teachers, staff and students had not seen one another since before their March spring break. “We miss our Westview family,” Blevins said.
Parents and teachers shed tears, but the children were excited and yelling to each teacher as they passed, she said.
“I can’t tell (parents) thank you enough for this. My teacher heart needed this so much,” Westview third-grade teacher Misty Smith said.
“I’m glad we got to do this and had so much help from the police department,” Westview Parent group PAWS Vice President Stephanie Conyers said. “It was perfect!”
