Alexander’s trial date set for child sex abuse charges

The fate of an Excelsior Springs woman facing numerous felony charges will be determined by a jury of her peers, as a 2024 trial date has been set.

Desiree A. Alexander, 36, appeared in person while on bond with her Public Defender Rebecca M. Abelm in front of Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Kevin L. Walden on Sept. 6.

City zoning board approved variance for QuikTrip

The Excelsior Springs Board of Zoning and Adjustments recently passed a new variance allowing QuikTrip to have a new sign for their up-and-coming Excelsior Springs location. Doug Hermes, the city planning consultant, addressed the board and presented the application explained under city ordnance chapter 403 which states signs placed “must not exceed a maximum of 100 square feet.” QuickTrip requested to install their sign with a square footage area of approximately 118.45 square feet.

Crash kills Lawson student, injuring another

The Lawson Community is mourning the death of a Lawson High School Student after a tragic vehicle wreck last week. Lawson Fire Department, Ray County Sheriff’s Department, Wood Heights Fire Department, Ray County Ambulance, Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) and Life-Flight responded to the area of Atkins Road and Route C on a report of a single-vehicle accident, around 8:58 p.m.

Two dead after fatal vehicle accident

Two Excelsior Springs residents lost their lives last week after a fatal motor vehicle accident near Route M, 0.2 miles north of Route U. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) Investigators Trooper I.L Kimball and MSHP Sergeant H.A.

Historic Preservation Commission debates wood siding

The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) recently gathered to approve various requests for exterior alterations to buildings in the downtown region of Excelsior Springs after debating what type of wood siding is appropriate per the HPC’s guidelines.

Lake Doniphan, first opened to the public in 1944, is still a favorite Excelsior Springs spot for camping and retreat style events. The lodge and grounds offer outdoor games, swimming, fishing, archery, boating, and campfires and lodging.

City closes deal for Villas at Golf Hill

Excelsior Springs officials are seeing visions become reality as they announced the sale of property that will be “Villas at Golf Hill” subdivision. Paradise Development LLC purchased lots 1-22 for the development.
