Excelsior Springs officials are once again challenging residents to turn introductions into friendships as the Mayor’s Block Party Challenge returns for another year of neighborhood gatherings. The initiative returns after residents organized 51 registered block parties last year, surpassing the city’s original goal of 50 gatherings.

Most Wanted program nets five arrests

Less than three weeks after Clay County unveiled its Ten Most Wanted list, five individuals, including an Excelsior Springs resident, have already been taken into custody. The Ten Most Wanted list was introduced May 27 through a collaborative effort involving the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers and other local law enforcement agencies.

Ambulance agreement renewed despite growing funding disparity

Excelsior Springs will continue to provide ambulance service to portions of eastern Clay County despite rising operational costs and a continuing gap between service expenses and district funding. Council members approved the annual agreement during a recent meeting, allowing the Excelsior Springs Fire Department (ESFD) to continue providing ambulance service to portions of eastern Clay County through the Eastern Clay County Ambulance District.

Museum receives state grant for oral history project

The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Excelsior Springs Museum and Archives in support of its “Vietnam Veteran Oral History Project.” MHC is the only statewide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages and has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971. The project is being conducted in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibit, “Not Forgotten: Local Stories of the Vietnam War Era,” which is open now through the end of November 2027 at the museum, 101 East Broadway Avenue, in historic downtown Excelsior Springs.
