Excelsior Springs graduate Damon Ashworth nearly finished this men’s wrestling season as a national champion.Ashworth, a redshirt senior at the University of Central Missouri, placed second in the 184-pound division at the NCAA Division II national tournament, held March 13-14 at Sioux Falls, S.D. He dropped his title match to Darion Johnson of McKendree University by technical fall.Ashworth finished the tournament 3-1. He won his first two matches by decision and his third by a firstperiod pin.GIRL POWER Josie Casler and Kinley Rogers led the way for Excelsior Springs at the Smithville Invitational.The two seniors won an event apiece at the March 27 track and field meet. Rogers won the girls discus by throwing 37.19 meters.
