Crushers reach tourney semis
Another crop of young baseball players could be joining the Excelsior Springs High School program in a few years.
The potential Tigers play for the 12-andunder Crushers. Richie Marsh coaches the Crushers, whose roster consists of 12 players – 10 of them from Excelsior Springs.
“We work with our kids with the intent of them learning the basic fundamentals of the game while still having fun,” Marsh said.
The Crushers just finished their season, going 14-13 overall, including 9-5 in the NKCA Baseball League’s 12-and-under American Division. They reached the league tournament semifinals, falling to the eventual champions, the Devil Dogs of Kansas City.
In addition, the Crushers played in three USSSA tournaments, including The Greater Midwest Baseball Tournament in Columbia; the KC Sports Crown Town Challenge in May, where they placed second; and the Midwest Global Championships in June.
