An early lead slipped away from Excelsior Springs in the Tigers’ Week 6 homecoming loss to Raytown South in 11-man varsity football.After punting away their opening possession and forcing the Cardinals to punt, the Tigers (1-5 overall) staged a four-play, 22-yard scoring drive to take their lead. Dawson Claypole’s 2-yard run and Carson Gholson’s extra-point kick capped the drive.The Cardinals (3-3) staged an 11-play, 65-yard drive, capped by a 6-yard TD run, to cut Excelsior Springs’ lead to 7-6. A Ray South two-point conversion attempt failed. Excelsior Springs carried that one-point lead into halftime.Sparked by a 55-yard fumble return for a touchdown early in the third quarter, Ray South blanked Excelsior Springs 21-0 the second half.
