EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Creating memories and living out dreams through playing sports drive many high school athletes. Excelsior Springs senior Ethan Edwards is one such athlete. Edwards, who has been nominated for homecoming king, plays varsity soccer and golf. He spends as much time as possible preparing himself to play both sports. Of the two, however, soccer is his first love, he said. “You have to be great at many aspects of the game in order to be successful at the highest level and that is why I prefer it,” he said. As a junior, Edwards tasted success in both sports. In soccer, he was a Class 2 all-state defender. In golf, he was a Class 3 state qualifier. During the prep sports offseason, Edwards played for the Kansas City Scott Gallagher soccer club. KCSG won a Midwest National Soccer League title and a 2021 U.S. Youth Soccer Midwest Regional title.
