EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers were undefeated through their first week of varsity girls basketball. Coach J.D. Biermann’s squad opened with wins Dec. 2 at Richmond and Dec. 3 at home against Lexington. The Tigers overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Richmond 58-50. Richmond led 12-11 after one quarter and extended its lead to 31-23 at halftime. “The first half and early into the third quarter, we looked like a team that had only been on the court to practice eight or nine times,” Biermann said. Biermann was referring to the limited number of practices the Tigers had in November because of COVID-19. They were quarantined for two weeks. During the third quarter, however, the Tigers put up 12 points to cut the Spartans’ lead to 41-35 entering the fourth quarter. “We really came together midway through the third quarter and things clicked to allow us to turn things around,” Biermann said.
