The Tigers are still growling in varsity girls tennis. Excelsior Springs claimed the singles and doubles titles at the Class 1 District 14 individual tournament, hosted Sept. 29 by the Tigers. Senior Anna Selby won the singles title with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the finals to advance to sectionals. Sophomores Shelby Stodden and Malaya Tedesco won the doubles title, defeating teammates senior Lauren Mueller and sophomore Megan Riegel 6-1, 6-7, 10-8. The district champions and runners-up will play in the individual sectionals at 4 p.m. Friday, also at Excelsior Springs. The winners will advance to state competition next week in Springfield. In addition, Excelsior Springs won the Class 1 District 14 team title, cruising past Lexington 5-0 Monday and Carrollton 5-2 Tuesday, hosting both duals.
