Excelsior Springs softballers get runs, no wins in latest outings

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – After a six-game stretch of being outscored 49-2, including four shutouts, the Tigers put runs on the board again in one suspended game and two completed games. There were no wins to show for their offense. The partial game was a Sept. 20 meeting with visiting Richmond, which was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning because of rain. Excelsior Springs was leading 6-2 when play stopped. The first completed game was a 4-3 Sept. 22 road loss to Smithville. The second was an 11-4 defeat Tuesday at Pleasant Hill. Excelsior Springs threatened to defeat Smithville by taking a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth. Junior shortstop Karli Shipman lined a single to center field and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to center by junior Daelyn Williams in the first.
