Only a nail-biting loss prevented Excelsior Springs from winning its own varsity girls soccer tournament.After opening the competition by trouncing Cameron 8-0 April 12 and then blanking Odessa 4-0 April 14, the Tigers lost the title game April 16 to Oak Park 5-4 on shootout kicks.The local girls took control early against Cameron, with Gracie Carder scoring the opening goal in the 21st minute. Emmalynn White made it 2-0 in the 37th minute by finishing an assist pass from Reese Ryan.Carder and White continued scoring in the second half, with Carder adding a goal in the 48th minute and White punching in one in the 52nd.
