ES girls netters capture first-ever district crown

The Excelsior Springs girls tennis team made history last week. With a 5-0 dual win over Lexington Oct. 3 and a 5-2 dual win over Carrollton Oct. 4, both at Excelsior Springs, the Tigers won the Class 1 District 14 title. It was the program’s first-ever team district championship. “I am so proud of all of the hard work these ladies have put in this fall,” coach Richie Marsh said. “The girls have battled through a tough schedule and that has allowed them to be rewarded with this great feat.” Seniors Anna Selby and Lauren Mueller opened the shutout of Lexington with an 8-0 win in doubles. Senior Lana Nunnenkamp and sophomore Megan Riegel won their doubles match 8-3. Sophomore Malaya Tedesco won 6-0, 6-0 in singles. Lexington forfeited the final two matches.
