A mix of matches pushes Excelsior Springs netters into home stretch

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The varsity girls tennis team has been on the courts often the past few weeks. Excelsior Springs’ schedule has included conference play, tournament action and individual district play. The full slate of matches started on Sept. 21, when the team visited Warrensburg for a triad with the host school and Clinton. The local netters fell to Warrensburg 5-0, with seniors Amanda Mayfield and Kaylie Como, and junior Emma Kern each falling 6-1 in singles play. Junior Lauren Mueller and freshman Megan Riegel dropped their matches 6-0. Excelsior Springs fell to Clinton 5-2. Mayfield won by default. Como dropped her match 6-1, with Kern falling 6-2 and Mueller falling 6-3. The doubles combination of junior Annalise Selby and Mayfield won by default.
