Pucks, palm trees suddenly make great combo
Maybe having ice hockey franchises in warm-weather climates is O.K.For decades, the idea of pro hockey teams being based in places known for year-round sunshine and temperatures well above freezing was a turnoff to me. The NHL has franchises in Florida and Texas? Something seemed amiss about that.Well, there were exceptions. For some reason, I tended to give California-based NHL teams a pass. Maybe it was because the Los Angeles Kings were one of the teams that came with the table hockey set I got for Christmas as a boy, I dunno.I’ve also been supportive of the newish NHL team in Las Vegas, Nev., the Golden Knights. That exception is easier to explain. Having made several late fall, wintertime and early spring visits to the Las Vegas metro area to visit family, I can attest it gets cold around “Sin City” from November to at least March.
