Rogers, Layton, Wilmes represent ES at state meet

Excelsior Springs’ track and field season is complete. The Tigers finished their season at Class 4 state competition, held May 26-27 at Jefferson City High School. Three student athletes represented Excelsior Springs there: Kinley Rogers, Dalton Layton and Gavin Wilmes. Rogers, who finished her first year of high school this spring, placed 12th in the girls javelin. Her first throw, also her longest that day, was 33.55 meters. Her second throw was 33.32. Her final throw was 27.59. Webb City’s Dawsyn Decker was the state girls javelin champion. Her best throw was 42.63. Layton, who graduated recently, finished his high school career by placing 15th in the boys triple jump. He started by leaping 11.5. His second jump was 12.09. His final jump was 11.45. Nevada’s Drew Beachler was the boys triple jump champion. His best leap was 13.97. Wilmes ran in the boys 300-meter intermediate hurdles. He ...
