Gabby Scrivener would not be denied a title at the Excelsior Springs Girls Tournament.The junior took the 170-pound B division at the 20-team, Dec. 13 competition, going 2-0. Both victories were by pin.Scrivener was among four top-three finishers for the host school. Haylee Ray, an Excelsior Springs first-year high schooler, placed second in the 155B bracket, going 2-1. Ray won two matches by second-period pins, then dropped her final match.Sophomore Pyper Layton took second in the 135D division, going 1-1. Layton’s win was by a first-period pin.Senior Kaitlynn Foster took third in the 125C division, going 1-2. Foster’s win was by fall.Those top-three finishes followed a 3024 dual victory over Winnetonka Dec. 10 in Kansas City.
