Tigers get second football win
Excelsior Springs has surpassed its win total from last season in varsity 11-man football.Jumping out to a 21-0 lead, the Tigers held on for a 21-8 Week 7 road win over Grandview, putting them at 2-5 overall entering Friday’s road clash with St. Joseph Central. Excelsior Springs finished 1-9 in 2023.The Tigers scored on their opening possession by staging a six-play, 77-yard drive, capped by senior Dawson Claypole’s 4-yard TD run. Senior Carson Gholson’s extra-point kick made it 7-0 Excelsior Springs.A defensive stop led to Claypole’s second TD run – a 10-yarder, also in the first quarter. Gholson added the extra point.Junior Marquez McCant provided Excelsior Springs’ final touchdown by breaking free for a 23-yard, secondquarter scoring run.
