EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – As the regular season winds down, the Tigers continue to win in varsity boys soccer. Over their last five games, the Tigers are 3-2, including a 4-1 loss Tuesday at Clinton. The victory put Excelsior Springs at 14-5 overall entering Thursday’s regular-season finale against visiting Harrisonville. The Tigers’ five-game run started Oct. 12 with a 3-0 win over visiting Odessa. Freshman Jacob Zapata started the scoring on an unassisted goal in the 39th minute. He then made it 2-0 in the 55th minute off an assist from sophomore Mason Wartner. Freshman Carson Gholson chipped in with an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute. Junior goalkeeper Zach Dimes made nine saves to help secure the shutout. Next, the Tigers cruised to a 6-1, Oct. 14 road win over Ruskin. Freshman Kollin Kincaid gave Excelsior Springs the opening lead in the non-conference meeting by finishing an assist from Wartner in the 25th minute.
