CONTENDER Lane Overholtzer contended for a state title in boys golf this week. The Excelsior Springs junior placed eighth at the Class 3 state tournament, held Monday and Tuesday at the Sedalia Country Club.

Brody Querry and seven of his teammates were looking to continue their senior season of Excelsior Springs varsity baseball this week. The Tigers were slated to play Oak Grove Wedensday at Excelsior Springs for the Class 4 District 15 Tournament title, with the winner to advance to sectionals.

Interim coach Cody Vaughn would’ve preferred a better start to the final week of the regular season from his Excelsior Springs varsity baseball squad. Facing Winnetonka Monday, the Tigers tumbled to the visiting Griffins 9-2.

Landon Cramer knows why he’s helping to represent Excelsior Springs at state in boys golf: He managed his emotions at district competition. Cramer is slated to play in the Class 3 state tournament, scheduled for May 18-19 at the Sedalia Country Club.

STILL HOOPING IT UP Booker O’Neill is continuing his basketball career. O’Neill, who’s set to graduate high school Friday from Excelsior Springs, has signed to play for the men’s team at Baker University in Baldwin, Kan.

WINNING BIG Excelsior Springs is romping past its opponents on its latest varsity baseball winning streak. The baseballers had won four straight entering Wednesday’s road meeting with Smithville, outscoring their opponents 44-3 during that stretch.

Odessa got Excelsior Springs again in varsity boys tennis. Less than two weeks after falling to the Bulldogs 6-3 at Excelsior Springs, the Tigers lost to Odessa 5-0 Monday in the dual, or “team,” portion of the Class 1 District 4 Tournament.
