Young local athlete competes nationally

Cian Miller, a tri-sport athlete and Lewis Elementary school third grader, recently participated in the Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, with KC Fire Track Club out of Liberty. KC Fire Track Club, a nonprofit youth track and field association for athletes aged eight to 18 years old, is affiliated with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and USA Track and Field organizations allowing competitors to qualify in events to compete at a national level, including the Junior Olympics.

ES sophomore softballer title-hungry

Fall sports practices begin at ESHS

School hasn’t started at Excelsior Springs, but fall sports practices have. Nearly 200 athletes had their first preseason practice with an Excelsior Springs fall program Monday – the first day fall teams could practice, per Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) regulations.

Ability to access healthy food discussed

Everyone deserves access to healthy food and recently, the Northland Health Alliance (NHA) partnered with the Platte County Health Department to discuss programs for people to receive nutritious foods in Clay County.

Future plans discussed at SAFE meeting, data shared

Excelsior Springs Substance Abuse-Free Environment (SAFE) coalition met recently to discuss their future plans. The guest speaker for the gathering was Dan Schmidt of the Penn State Evidence- based Prevention and Intervention support coalition check-up project.
