The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is marking the 45th anniversary of its first Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). Formed in New York in 1980, the first JTTF became a model for law enforcement cooperation across the nation.

Historic properties recognized

The Excelsior Springs Historic Preservation Commission recently held a regular meeting during which awards were presented for the preservation of historic properties in Excelsior Springs. Historic Preservation Commission Chairman Jason Van Till presented owners of three properties with awards recognizing their efforts in the preservation of historic properties in three categories: residential property, commercial property and investment property.

Student mural aims to make lasting impact

A once-intimidating waiting room inside the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office now radiates color and creativity thanks to a new mural designed by Liberty High School art students. Unveiled during a recent special ceremony, the student-led project was celebrated as more than an artistic achievement – it was recognized as a symbol of healing, collaboration and community connection.

Local residential fire claims one life

An early morning house fire on Stratton Street claimed the life of one person last week after flames tore through a residential structure on the city’s north side. Excelsior Springs Fire Department units were dispatched to the scene at 5:23 a.m.

Biermann, Kennedy, Overholtzer heading to state

Excelsior Springs is sending three boys golfers to state competition. Landon Biermann and Tayvion Kennedy, who’ll graduate Friday; and sophomore Lane Overholtzer are slated to compete in the Class 3 state tournament May 19-20 at Twin Hill Golf Course in Joplin.
