Area schools expect benefit from funding for school buses

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – “Full funding” for public school transportation might translate to hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Excelsior Springs and Richmond school districts.
Richmond School District Transportation Director Jeff Southwick said, when the school year concludes in a few days, then the district will focus on possible savings.
“We haven’t started working on that just yet,” he said Monday.
A rough estimate puts Richmond savings in the $300,000 range, possibly better, Southwick said. When numbers are calculated, then district leaders will determine how the money can benefit students, he said.
Excelsior Springs Assistant Superintendent Jaret Tomlinson said the state had funding schools at roughly 19% of the actual cost.
