EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Graduation dates remain up in the air for area schools due to the COVID-19 virus. The date when the virus is expected to peak, but not end, for the nation is April 16, but peak dates vary by state. Missouri’s peak date for now is May 21, based on information from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington. Following the peak date, the end of the virus may not be seen for several additional weeks, with total Missouri deaths projected at 1,290 by Aug. 4. Excelsior Springs School District Superintendent Don Hoehn said the date is under review. The school year started with May 8 as the scheduled date for graduation. “We’ve got a board meeting Monday night,” he said. “We’ll discuss some of those things.” The board will meet remotely due to health concerns, Hoehn said. “Hopefully, I’ll have some answers next Tuesday – maybe,” he said.
