Cornerstone looks ‘fabulous,’ new superintendent declares

EXCELSIOR SPRINGSS – Cornerstone Elementary has won raves from new district Superintendent Travis Hux. “This is going to be one of the nicest elementary schools in the metro area,” Hux said during the Board of Education’s July 12 meeting. “It’s fabulous.” Newkirk Novak Construction Partners, the Lenexa, Kansas-based firm overseeing the project, expects to allow district employees access to Cornerstone starting Aug. 1, Hux said. The date is in keeping with the desire to give personnel time to move material into the school, he said. “We’re going to do what we can to get them in as soon as possible,” Hux said. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated for 9 a.m. July 27. Hux said a Cornerstone community tour is set for 4:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 16. He said open houses for Cornerstone and the district’s other elementary schools, Elkhorn in Ray County and Lewis, are planned for 5-6:30 p.m. Aug. 24. Hux reported ...
