Excelsior Springs City Council approves fees to test meters

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city has set fee schedules for residents who want their water meters tested. The City Council set fees based on two meter types: turbine and positive displacement. Turbine meters fees are $110 for 1½-inch and 2-inch meters, and $160 for 3-inch meters. Positive displacement fees range from $50 for meters between 5/8 and ¾ inch to $105 for 2-inch meters. Mid America Meter Inc. – a Minnesota-based company with offices in Shawnee, Kansas – has set the fee schedule, Public Works Director Chad Birdsong stated in a memo sent to city leaders before the meeting. Mid America Meter also will conduct the tests. Per the ordinance, there is a $50 postage fee to send meters to Mid America Meter for testing. The testing fee schedule resulted from city efforts to assist residents faced with steep bills, Birdsong stated in his memo, and when talking to the council.
