Governor says he wants businesses to reopen

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Mike Parson said he would like to reopen businesses in Missouri starting May 4, one day after his stay-home order is scheduled to end. Parson cautioned he would consult with health leaders before lifting the order, which is designed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. The original order, issued April 6, had been slated for review April 24 before ongoing concern about the virus, which has killed more than 165 Missourians, led to extending the order. As a result of Parson’s order, the state’s economy has been in a deep freeze, with businesses shutting down and thousands of Missourians laid off; however, the order appears to be slowing the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
