EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city urges residents to prevent a buildup of leaves on roads and gutters as fall arrives.

“When residents blow or rake their leaves into roadways or curbs, it causes many problems, such as clogging storm drains, hazardous driving conditions, pollution and even fire hazards,” city information states.

City rules make sweeping leaves into streets, gutters, alleys or other public rights of way a municipal offense.

“Proper leaf control would be mulching, or in areas of excessive leaves, removal may be needed,” city information states.

The city’s yard waste drop-off area is at 1298 S. Marietta, behind the new animal shelter. Drop-off hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and from 3 p.m. until dusk Sundays.

For more information, call the city at 816-630-0755, ext. 424.
