Local optometrist Remi Miljavic of the Excelsior Springs Family Vision Center wants the community to stay focused on vision safety in observance of Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month. “The most important thing I can tell anyone regarding eye health and safety is to not take vision for granted,” Miljavic said. “The attitude of ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it’ just doesn’t cut it when it comes to the gift of sight.” Children use vision as their first method of learning, Miljavic said. If they have a vision condition, they could struggle in their education and fall behind. Miljavic said for those children who do have vision issues, it can also cause self-doubt and behavioral issues can later occur. She encourages parents who suspect a vision issue before kindergarten to have those children seen as quickly as possible.
