Excelsior Springs might have a revised dangerous dog ordinance come August. Paul Campo, city attorney, shared bullet points of the draft for a revised ordinance via Zoom on July 15, when city leaders convened at the Hall of Waters for a work session. Plans are for the proposed ordinance to be an agenda item Aug. 1, when the City Council meets, also at the Hall of Waters, according to Molly McGovern, city manager. If approved, the ordinance would eliminate the city’s decades-old pit bull ban, Campo said. It also would place aggressive dogs into three categories: potentially dangerous, dangerous and vicious. “These declarations each have different conse quences,” he said. Potentially dangerous dogs would be defined as those who haven’t bitten anyone but display “super-aggressive behavior,” Campo said.
