Richmond High closes for three weeks due to four confirmed COVID-19 cases

RICHMOND – After several people tested positive for COVID-19 and scores have possibly been in contact with those people, Richmond School District leaders ordered a three-week shutdown at Richmond High School, district Superintendent Gary Darling said late Friday afternoon. “We had over 50% of our kids today either tested positive, or are quarantined or showing symptoms,” Darling said. The four people who have the virus have been in contact with everyone else. The contact does not mean everyone else contracted the virus. But must be separated from the general population and checked for safety purposes. “We have a number that are getting tested and are showing signs and symptoms,” Darling said. Before the new school year began, the district board and administration approved various options to deal with an outbreak. The shutdown is among those options. “We’re closed Monday and we’re going to start virtual (learning) Tuesday, and we’re going to do three weeks of it,” Darling said. …
